Overview

Horwick was founded durring the late 14th century in summer of the year 1281, by Hoůkhi Allan. The establishment of Horwick was only bairly constructed. The sheer number of problems with its founding were enough to make several of the backers funding Horwick 's construction back out of the project. Hoůkhi Allan pushed on reguardles, and Horwick was finished, but starts off as a terible place to live.

Horwick was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Horwick is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Horwick is was constructed arround several premissive worn bedrock mainstreets which cross one another at certain axies, with smaller streets branching off of them to premit acess to the many buildings deeper into the road network. The overall fashion is remenessent of a circulatory system, or other organic construct, and is quite effishent in its design. The town sits comfortably behind a palisade wall complete with a timber gatehouse and battlments. Horwick 's timber-based walls has sufferd soem light damage, reducing its function a little in some spots, but could almsot certainly preform as expected... Though some of the worse spots could lead to the loss of defenders lives if attackers identified the weaknesses ahead of time.

A look around Horwick gives you an uneasy feeling. Everything is just a little too worn down, a little too dirty, or both. No one makes eye contact. Kids play quietly, but happily. Occasionally a passerby glances at you out of the corner of their eye, staring jsut long enough for it to be uncomfortable.

Civic Infrastructure

Horwick has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Horwick . They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Horwick 's parks.

Horwick has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Horwick .

Horwick has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Horwick has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Horwick has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Horwick 's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Horwick has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Horwick 's natural decorations nor waterways.

Horwick has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Horwick has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Horwick 's garrison was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is best known for its striking sculptural forms and often dazzling ornamental detail that characterizes the buildings general shape. The radiant colors, rich patterns, and symmetrical silhouettes employed by this style were backed up by rich decorative features including gardens, courtyards, extruded arches, domes, pointed domes, vaulted ceilings, elaborate painted and inlaid designs, and decorative sculptures.

Due to the actions of local Kami, winter is skipped in Horwick .

The Firbolg near Horwick are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Horwick 's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves orgies to channel Enchantment energies of tier 3 via throat chanting.

Points of Interest

Many of Horwick ’s structures date back to the ancient past and a long-vanished culture. They have unique architectural traits, perhaps being made of some strange substance or with uncanny qualities. The locals find them too useful or too durable to destroy, but the buildings often have unpleasant little surprises in their under-explored corners, and there may be greater structures still buried by long ages beneath Horwick ’s streets.

POI

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Horwick was attacked by savage trollss living nearby. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Horwick lost 177 people, 146 livestock, and 49 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 166, when members of Horwick 's militia enacted an operation to recruit a specific expert. The operation was complicated by a trusted officer who turned traitor and defects. The conflict ended with a last stand against the enemy until a particular event occurred, which ended in victory for Horwick 's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Horwick 's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
